Pro 2A Virginians: "Staying in the Fight" vs. Politics as Usual
The Virginia General Assembly is set to return to Richmond bringing elected officials from all over the Commonwealth back to the capital to do the "peoples business".
With so many things that the Assembly could be focusing on to move Virginia forward, it is now post November focused upon changing the very nature of Virginia and all that it has stood for since the first legislative assembly of 1619.
The New Virginia Progressive movement of the Democrat Party of Virginia and its supporters at Blue Virginia have taken virtually all the oxygen out of the room in politics in the Commonwealth of Virginia. They no longer represent the value systems of even many Democrats living throughout the Commonwealth, especially those living in Southwest and Eastern Virginia. In fact, pro gun Democrats are now witnessing a movement within their Party that stands to reshape the very foundation of its own traditions and those Virginians have noticed.
The last several weeks has revealed the countless measures that the Progressives are pressuring Virginia Democrats to pass during the upcoming Virginia 2020 General Assembly. Yes the Democrats won majority in the Virginia Assembly but lets be honest and frankly Democrats should be honest with themselves; Democrats won majority by flipping two seats in the Virginia Senate in truth. Two.
Democrats secured Senate District 10 mostly due to the voters in City of Richmond and also District 13 due in part to the retiring of State Senator Dick Black which covers Loudoun County and Prince William County. Democrats now control the House of Delegates 55-45 and the Senate 21-19.
Loudoun and now after today Prince William County will have rejected the Second Amendment Sanctuary Resolution staying true to form with Progressives. Fairfax, Loudoun and Arlington is your highest concentration of Progressive Democrats in Virginia. In fact, the entire Democrat Party of Virginia and Caucus leadership in both chambers of the Assembly come from this region of the Commonwealth.
So much for that diversity Democrats always claim.
The Prince William County board last month approved the sanctuary measure but today the newly elected members from the November election who hold seats in the body have made it clear they intend to undo the initial support for a gun sanctuary in Prince William County.
This is course no surprise. Its politics and Virginia Democrats put politics before everything. Yes everything. We have seen it just last week as Virginia Democrats condemn the President for authorizing drone attack that killed the biggest terrorist organizer in the Middle East. Instead of putting country, Commonwealth and Constitution first; they put petty politics first.
The Progressive leadership now that has become the compass for the Virginia Democrats does not represent all Democrats however and many would be wise to acknowledge this fact. There are a half dozen seats in the House of Delegates that were won by Democrats by less than eight points in November. Eight point with less than average Republican turnout.
If the election were held tomorrow would the results in many of these House Districts be the same? Maybe but one should also remember that over twenty seats went unopposed in November. That certainly would not be the case today.
It is time now that Patriots enter "opposition" mode in Richmond. This requires identifying those votes that may be swayed to opposing Governor Ralph Northam's and State Senator Dick Saslaw gun legislation.
If you are attending Lobby Day on January 20th in Richmond, be sure to check back on the blog for Jonathan Scott's upcoming "So You Want to Lobby Your Assembly" guest contribution coming this week.
Jonathan Scott created one of the single most defining second amendment sanctuary movement pages in Virginia back in November 2019 providing information on the grassroots movement county by county with hundreds of contributors from around the Commonwealth. The group highly screens membership in the group and will be creating a leadership group page soon which is an offshoot of the main group that will be for #2AStrong representatives monitoring localities throughout Virginia and being the ground component to inform and register voters in the representatives home localities and attend local meetings.
The main group can be found here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/578238489390036/
One aspect that Jonathan Scott stresses for those who are supporting the #2AStrong movement is not only focus on ones own Delegate or State Senator. For example, if your Delegate supports upholding the Constitution than focus on those officials that do not. Work on email campiangs or facebook to convince them and let them know that you are committed toward supporting only officials that uphold the Constitution. Your support can come in various ways but the most important outside of voting will be to financially support or volunteer in opposition to said officials next campaign.
There are also plans underway for the creation of 2A Political Action Committee (PAC)for Virginia to help support and elect pro-2A officials in the 2021 House of Delegate races and the nex Governor's race in the Commonwealth. Part of a Take Back Virginia and #TurnVaRed initiative.
After all, Virginia faces these unconstitutional proposals because of outside support and campaign volunteers that Democrats were provided from outside the Commonwealth in 2019. Democrats took millions of donations and contributions from non-Virginians in order to secure the majority.
Two House seats that the #2AStrong movement has targeted this session that Patriots should consider are the following:
House of Delegates District 75
House of Delegates District 83
House of Delegates District 83:
Democrat Delegate Nancy Guy. This is Republican Chris Stolle's former district. Guy defeated Stolle 49.97 to 49.85% in November. Virginia Beach constituency.
Virginia Beach City just passed #2AStrong sanctuary resolution
House of Delegates District 75:
Democrat Delegate Roslyn Tyler defeated Republican Otto Wachsmann
50.98 to 48.89% in November. Gun owning constituency.
Brunswick County, Emporia, Franklin, Greensville, Lunenburg, Southampton, Sussex
The counties in this district are #2AStrong gun sanctuaries
So what these two examples illustrate is you have Democrats outside the Progressive Northern Virginia localities that won very close elections in November that now have local governing bodies going against Richmond and the Democrat Party with their support for the Constitution.
These are two Democrats who should be lobbied on Lobby Day or contacted directly via email or facebook pages for Virginians (all Virginians) to share with them their concerns with the direction Richmond is moving.
Again, if the election were held tomorrow and voters were informed to the effort underway in Richmond by Progressives the outcome in these two examples would be quite different. Voters need to make the Delegates aware of that fact.
There are certainly other districts as well which the #2AStrong movement intends to highlight moving forward going into the next election cycle as well.
Today, Prince William County will do the bidding of the Progressives and undo the sanctuary resolution the previous Board supported last month. This comes right after Fairfax County State Senator David Marsden called pro-2A supporters "crazy" and "little kids" at a recent meeting. This of course follows State Senator Dick Saslaw-Majority Leader calling pro-2A supporters "delusional".
This is simply the politics of destruction by Northern Virginia Progressives. They never debate the merits of their legislation but rather attack Virginians who have opposing positions. Virginians must continue to fight and stay in the fight working to oppose each and every piece of legislation set to defy our traditions and heritage with regard to the US Constitution.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe: The Forgotten 2017 Gun Ban in Virginia
While many Virginians remain shocked that Governor Northam (D) intends on banning guns as part of the most sweeping and radical gun control legislation in Virginia history, it is important to remember that Northam is simply following his predecessor Governor Terry McAuliffe.
Governor Terry McAuliffe actually banned firearms, however virtually no one noticed and the media in Richmond hardly even covered the action undertaken. The Commonwealth of Virginia in fact imposed imposed strict limitations in November 2017 regarding any protests, rallies or public demonstrations at the Robert E. Lee Monument in Richmond erected in 1890 by Virginia Democrats to celebrate the life of the Virginian.
Gov. Terry McAuliffe proclaimed emergency powers and issues emergency regulations forgoing any legislation to do so through the General Assembly which his Party held the minority.
McAuliffe would restrict the right to assembly by reducing permitted crowd sizes at events at the Lee Monument to 500. The previous crowd limit was 5,000. The Governor also changed the required permits for public assembly requiring a permit for an event hosted for more than 10 people.
So basically a school bus load of children could never visit the Lee Monument again without an actual permit to do so and now you know why you never see the tour buses stopped at the monument unloading tourists. So much for hospitality and tourism in the city.
Yet, Governor McAuliffe went further. McAuliffe issued a gun ban on any events scheduled at the Lee Monument. Something that had never been done before in the history of the Monument Avenue.
These regulations were a stated direct result from the events in Charlottesville, Va. in 2017 as means towards changing the "climate" or "preventing" protests in Richmond. So in effect, a sitting Governor was attempting to prevent organized protest or assembly in the capital city of the Commonwealth and was using emergency regulations to do it.
The Progressives cheered McAuliffe having no regard for the rights of assembly or the right to bear arms and the Governor totally circumvented the legislature to do it.
The Governor passed no regulations or requirements to take effect in Charlottesville where the rally occurred nor did the Governor ever ask the City Council of that city to address its monuments though Charlottesville would later "black tarp" both the Lee and Jackson monuments in Charlottesville and rename Lee Park to Emancipation Park.
Governor McAuliffe singled out only the Lee Monument for his targeted discriminatory regulations and further prohibited anyone from open carry or conceal carry on the premise of the Lee Monument. The monument is not a government building or complex nor a religious venue that typical legislation limits open carry.
How did this all happen in truth. Simple. The Progressives used the "public safety" messaging to convince Virginians that a threat was eminent. That the Commonwealth would be over run with Unite the Right protesters or Neo Nazi/KKK groups. None of which happened after the Charlottesville event.
Progressives manufactured a "crisis".
Progressives manufactured a "crisis".
Virginia Democrats and Governor McAuliffe assured Virginians that such restrictions “will balance First Amendment rights and ensure that all Virginians remain safe....We believe these regulations can be a model for localities across Virginia as they consider how to approach these types of events in the future.”
Message? Localities would be given license to enact their own measures to restrict assembly, open carry or restrict entry to buildings while carrying a firearm.
Message? Localities would be given license to enact their own measures to restrict assembly, open carry or restrict entry to buildings while carrying a firearm.
Furthermore, what Governor McAuliffe actually was saying is the Confederate monuments are no longer off limits and protected. These actions were the true catalyst or "green light" moment for Virginia history to be attacked.
Prior to the "emergency" action taken by McAuliffe vandalism was a virtual rarity in Richmond and Charlottesville. Afterward, dozens of instances have occurred with the use of red paint on various statues and monuments. In effect, The Democrats made the monuments a target and thus a "symbol" of their intentions moving forward to fundamentally change the perception of the part these Virginia treasures play in Virginia history.

Afterward, dozens of instances have occurred with the use of red paint on various statues and monuments. In effect, The Democrats made the monuments a target and thus a "symbol" of their intentions moving forward to fundamentally change the perception of the part these Virginia treasures play in Virginia history.
While campaigning for office, Governor McAuliffe stated numerous times that the monuments should remain a part of Virginia history. He was quoted as saying "they are all part of our heritage".
McAuliffe and the Democrats have in fact betrayed Virginia history and its heritage.
The nexus between what is happening today with Governor Ralph Northam's proposed gun legislation, McAuliffe , Mayor Levar Stoney and the Virginia Progressives is clear. Northam's proposals are merely an extension of what Governor McAuliffe implemented in 2017.
Unlike most monuments in Richmond, Va which are owned by the city, the Robert E. Lee Monument is owned by the Commonwealth of Virginia and thus all Virginians. This fact may be its only saving grace in truth as the City of Richmond has some have proposed for the removal of Confederate monuments in the city, including Mayor Levar Stoney who is likely to run for Lt. Governor in 2021
It is important to note that with all the predicted hysteria and fears that Progressives always craft as their narrative regarding such issues as racism and the monuments the city just last month unveiled a new statue Rumors of War whose sole purpose is a counter-reaction to the monument of J.E.B Stuart on Monument Avenue.
Of course there were no protests or rallies objecting to the erection of the two million dollar Rumors of War statute outside the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts by anyone.
Far too many forget the "emergency" action undertaken by Governor McAuliffe. It is clear that Governor Northam this time planning to use the legislature to enact unconstitutional gun bans and or confiscation rather than "emergency" powers or regulations.
The media hardly covered the regulations back in 2017 regarding the actions undertaken by McAuliffe. Even though on their face they were an afront to freedom to assemble and right to bear arms in the public square.
This is the lesson. Virginians can no longer stand by and allow such measures to be advanced further by government imposing regulations or unconstitutional laws for fear of being called "code words" by the Progressives.
In 2017 if anyone opposed McAuliffe's measures they would be called "racist" paying no mind to the underlying assault on freedom and liberty such regulations represent and have led us to where Virginia is today.
Pro Second Amendment supporters must understand that the very intention they have for uphold our Constitution will be portrayed as anything but by Progressives and the media.

Tommy Norment (R): A Betrayal of Trust
As Senate Majority leader in the Virginia General Assembly in 2019, Tommy Norment (R) stated he would support legislation enabling localities“to enact any firearms ordinances that are stricter than state law,”
The VCDL (Virginia Citizens Defense League) which is one of the largest gun rights advocacy groups in Virginia cannot remain silent. Last year, the VCDL refused to condemn Norment's various gun bills that are not aligned with majority 2A supporters in Virginia. Its time for VCDL to not only stand with pro-2A Virginians BUT also call out and hold accountable Republican leaders as well.
Recently at a Legislative Insight Luncheon State Senator Tommy Norment (R) stated that the Virginia GOP in the Virginia Senate would support "universal background checks" and the measure would pass because his Caucus would support it in the Virginia Senate along with Virginia Democrats.
This is just another example demonstrating disconnect by State Senator Tommy Norment (R) from Virginia Republicans. Last summer, it was Norment who proposed banning all firearms on government property while Senate Majority Leader in the Virginia Senate.
That is correct. The State Senator as Majority Leader proposed to ban guns. Norment sought to amend the law that forbids firearms on courthouse property to include all government complexes.
Senator Norment represents the VA03 which is comprised of King & Queen, King William, New Kent, and Glouster County in Virginia. Norment won re-election in November with 61% of the vote in the Third District. However, virtually every locality in his district has supports 2A Gun Sanctuary resolutions or affirmations of the Second Amendment.
Former State Senator Dick Black (R) proposed counter proposals to Norment. Black asserted that local governments should be prohibited from passing any ordinances restricting local employees from carrying firearms on public buildings or government complexes. Black's measure directly addressed the inability of local employees to carry on property that was highlighted in the investigation in the May 31, 2019 Virginia Beach shooting incident at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center.
We all know the recent results in Texas where an armed citizen during religious services shot and killed an active shooter during religious services because Texas had enacted a law that permitted armed security forces used by places of worship to carry firearms legally on church premises.
Delegate Glen Davis (R- Va Beach) also has proposed gun bans in government buildings. Both Norment and Davis appear to be out of touch with the majority of Virginia Republicans now who intend to rally at the Richmond Capital this month on January 20th. Davis also sought a stricter conceal carry program demanding a firearms safety course in person and withdraw online training.
This is in stark contrast to State Senator Bill DeSteph (R) who sought gun proposals that addressed actual crimes committed using a firearm not law abiding citizens with gun ownership. DeSteph sought to increase the penalties for offenders who used a firearm in commission of a crime.
All of this highlights a lack of leadership and unified messaging that has resonated in the State GOP Leadership in Richmond for years.
Tommy Norment also refused to support fellow Republican State Senator Amanda Freeman Chase in her re-election bid in November for the VA11 Senate District comprising Chesterfield, Amelia and Colonial Heights. Norment supported every other Republican Senate candidate in the Richmond suburbs providing hundreds of thousand of dollars to Glen Sturtevant and Siobhan Dunnavant campaigns. Dunnavant would win re-election but Sturtevant would lose.
Senator Chase has been a strong advocate for 2A rights and determined after Norment was selected once again as the leader for the fourth term now as Minority Leader of the Senate to leave the Republican Caucus.
Is there any wonder why Chase would opt to leave a Caucus that clearly is determined to continue to make the same mistakes and not address the things that resulted in the Republican Party's sound defeat last November and loss of majorities in both the Virginia Senate and House of Delegates.
Gun banning supported by Republicans? Extensive Background Checks or waiting periods for Firearms? Id this the future of the State GOP in Richmond and what they intend to support?
Tommy Norment and others like Glen Davis have betrayed Virginia Republicans. Is this their vision of "opposition"?
“Our Commonwealth has come to a crossroads. The GOP Senate leadership has failed to lead and new leadership is required. I have presented my concerns to the leadership and they have been dismissed. If that means me breaking away from the caucus so be it,” (Senator Amanda Freeman Chase)

House Bill (30): Budget Bill Signaling Progressive Resolve to Make You a Felon!
Virginia progressives told voters throughout 2019 that Republicans were "fear mongering". That Republicans proposing that the Progressives were planning to take everyone's guns was a lie and just a political strategy to feed the base of the Republican Party. They called us "alarmists".
Well, look where we are now. Almost 100 localities have supported a #2AStrong Resolution in the face of Progressive radical, extreme gun proposals that are unconstitutional.
Are we still "fear mongering"? Are we still "alarmists"?
If the alarms were not true than why would items like HB30 even be proposed with the language it uses?
Are we to believe that these proposals were completed post election last November?
No. These proposals have been created and drafted outside the Commonwealth and thrust upon Virginians by those who were never elected by Virginians. Progressive advocacy and lobby groups have drafted these measures on behalf of Virginia Progressives and have been working on such proposals long before the election in November.
"When I heard about The Virginia Budget Bill - HB30 preemptively allocating $250,000 to the operating cost of adult correctional facilities in anticipation of people not complying with the unconstitutional gun control laws they plan to pass in January, I thought it was an exaggeration at best and a lie at worst.
Nope. I was wrong!
They didn’t just allocate $250,000; they broke down the allocation with specific reference to the gun control laws they plan to pass and that they anticipate Virginians not obeying, and it’s disgusting.
Among the enumerated laws that this allocation is meant to fund are a ban on commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms, the criminalization of private firearms transfers, and gun confiscation orders issued without due process." (Colion Noir, 2A Advocate)
Here is the proposed House Bill 30 (Budget Bill) in the Virginia General Assembly
https://budget.lis.virginia.gov/item/2020/1/hb30/introduced/1/402/?fbclid=IwAR0KIBYsbp5qJLyUlf5qlzRH5-7wN40NEsD7vn5Z-gyS13mw_1m6WDo6EII
So we are left with this.Virginia increases corrections budget in anticipation of pacing lawful gun owners in jail for possession of a firearm
HB30 includes an appropriation of a quarter million dollars to carry out a host of gun control measures that Northam and Virginia Progressives seek to enact after securing majority in Richmond funded by Bloomberg and Soros.
Said appropriation is direted to the Corrections Special Reserve Fund. Why?
To address the “increase in the operating cost of adult correctional facilities resulting from the enactment” resulting from progressive gun control legislation.
This is your New Progressive Assembly Virginia! Doesn't sound to much like Virginia now does it?

Gov. Ralph Northam's Gun Ban Epiphany
Governor Ralph Northam of Virginia is not backing down.
Having secured the majority for the first time in decades in the Virginia General Assembly there is little opposition standing in way of Northam and the Virginia Progressives in Richmond to prevent him implementing sweeping radical changes to Virginia gun laws.
The deal certainly was struck with Progressives last Spring. A surging Progressive movement within the Virginia Democrat Party came out very hard against the Governor regarding the "blackface" revelation. At first Northam denied the allegation that he ever wore "blackface" while at medical school but then later would admit that he was actually in the pictures revealed.
While many Democrats condemned the Governor, there was no real effort in either chamber to remove the Governor. In fairness, there was no effort by the Republicans controlling both chambers of the General Assembly at the time either. Many contend that was a major miscalculation by the Republican Party of Virginia. In fact, there was not even unifying messaging during the 2019 campaign for the Assembly regarding the "blackface" issue.
Democrats secured victory in November and then proceeded to name its entire leadership team from one region of Virginia; Progressive Northern Virginia.
Many believe that the change in Northam's positions are a direct result of his not being investigated or being forced to resign by his Party. There is little evidence that Northam in his political career ever advanced a gun confiscation or restriction measure nor did he ever campaign on gun registration.
Governor Northam hails from the Virginia Eastern Shore region of Virginia. Northam served the VA-6 Senate District before being Gov. Terry McAuliffe's Lt. Governor which is comprised of Accomack County, Northampton County, Mathews County and parts of Hampton Rhodes, Norfolk and Virginia Beach.
Thus far, Accomack, Northampton and Mathews County which Northam represented for years have all voted in support of the 2A Gun Sanctuary Movement in Virginia.
In fact, there is a direct correlation in Northam's change in position regarding guns and him having to mend fences with his own Party after the allegations of "blackface" surfaced.
The Democrat Party of Virginia lost any high ground on morality in 2019 having supported the opposition to Judge Kavanaugh and the baseless assertions launched against the Judge during his confirmations hearings in the U.S. Senate to the utter failure to investigate or hold hearings regarding Northam and Attorney General Herring's "blackface" admissions and the sexual assault allegations brought forward by two Democrat women against Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax.
It is clear that an agreement was reached. The calls for resignation dissipated with each passing poll demonstrating that the Democrats would secure the Assembly.
In recent weeks, Northam has double down even bringing in the contemplation of using the National Guard to enforce the upcoming laws Progressives plan to enact. The backlash was so severe that it appears that Northam has moved off the position only to advance the creation of an 18 member unit to enforce the gun bans.
Virginia has a population of 8.5 million citizens. 29.30% of the Virginia population owns firearms.
http://worldpopulationreview.com/states/gun-ownership-by-state/
Northam wants an 18 member "Gestapo-style" force to enforce the Progressive gun bans. In effect, this team would cost the Virginia tax payer 4.8 million so Virginians will be paying to have their own firearms confiscated. Northam also included another 2 million to enforce other gun proposals that Progressives seek to enact in 2020. Northam is not above adding to the 18 member force as necessary to address the gun bans.
Over 90% of Virginia localities have rejected the Northam Gun Ban proposals having resolutions drafted in support of the Second Amendment.

Loudoun County: Fertile Ground for Anti-2A and Soros Driven "Public Safety"
Some of you may have heard recently that Loudoun County is considering the creation of a County Police Department to augment its Sheriffs Department.
The question arises why? Why now?
Localities in the Commonwealth of Virginia like Henrico and Chesterfield County just outside the capital in Richmond have long had Police Departments. In fact, both have similar population density as Loudoun County in Northern Virginia. Loudoun historically has been a conservative county but in the last decade and half has moved further and further to the left.
Like the Assembly, the Democrats now fully control the Loudoun Executive and will seek to transform the county with their vision.
Just last month, the outgoing Board of Supervisors passed sweeping changes to gun safety rules and ordinances for the County in the face of stark opposition from citizens. These measures addressed recreational shooting and discharges of firearms related to close proximity of buildings.
The Board added to County code the following:
“The discharge of firearms for recreational or target shooting purposes shall be conducted in such a manner as to ensure that projectiles do not leave the boundaries of the property or parcel upon which the shooting is occurring, unless permission to do so has been granted by the owner of the property or parcel upon which the projectile lands. A projectile leaving the boundaries of the property or parcel shall beprima facieevidence of a violation of this section.”
Democrats in Loudoun now have the majority like most other Northern Virginia localities. In fact, in November a new Commonwealth Attorney was elected with the full support and financial backing of George Soros whose PAC's fully funded many Commonwealth Attorney races in the Northern Virginia region. Why is the Commonwealth Attorney position such a crucial position in terms of the Progressives?
The Commonwealth Attorney's office can create an environment where it may determine which laws passed by the Commonwealth of Virginia it may wish to enforce or not. The "policing powers" rests with the County via the Dillon Rule, but the Commonwealth Attorney can determine which cases the office wishes to prosecute and which it does not. In fact, the newly elected Loudoun County Commonwealth Attorney has already made it clear that laws and prosecutions of the past were excessive and over prosecuted.
Buta Bieraj's campaign was provided more funds by George Soros than most House races for the General Assembly in Richmond had funded during the November elections. Soros also funded Loudouns Commonwealth Attorney races in neighboring localities like Fairfax and Arlington.
The direction that Soro's and now these Commonwealth Attorney's wish to take Northern Virginia is moving "Public Safety" to the far left. None of these Soros backed officials believe that federal immigration laws should be enforced. They also have pledged to enforce the most Progressive gun restriction proposals ever in the history of Virginia.
Now, Democrats in Loudoun are seeking the establishment of a Police Department to augment the Sheriff Department. The Sheriff is an elected position by the people and is a constitutional officer of the Commonwealth. The Police would not be. The Chief would not be elected by the people instead be appointed by the Board of Supervisors and paid for along with the entire department by Loudoun County tax payers. This means that every citizen can expect property taxes to increase two fold under Democrats if they are permitted to establish a Police Department.
The newly elected Sheriff of Loudoun County Republican Mike Chapman opposes such ideas. The Sheriff Department would be relegated to County jail and courthouse responsibilities should a Police force be established. The police would enforce the laws that the County wished to be enforced. The County Executive under State law has control of the policing powers.
Why are the Loudoun Democrats trying to fix something that clearly is not broken and at the expense of tax payers?
Simple. Power and Control.
They also want to go right along with the Progressives in the Assembly with their intention on passing massive gun bans and restrictions. They wish to have a police force to enforce those laws as many Sheriffs across the Commonwealth have publicly stated they will not enforce such unconstitutional laws.
Progressives wish to back bench the Sheriffs Department which in truth derives its powers from the Commonwealth as well as its compensation along with local supplements in many instances.
Progressives do not want citizens to be afforded the opportunity to select or elect their law enforcement executives. This is a power that they wish to secure themselves and remove the Sheriff from "policing" constituents even though in Loudoun the department has performed with distinction.
The Loudoun Board of Supervisors is signaling the direction it wishes to take "Public Safety" and it is one that is fully supported by George Soros. Loudoun could not only witness its Commonwealth Attorney's office but also with a new Police Department usher in a new and radical vision of justice that is counter to Loudoun's tradition.
The outgoing Board also determined that Loudoun County will NOT become a Second Amendment Sanctuary County as well also signaling the changes to come in the county.
A Board that refuses to stand up for the U.S. Constitution is a Board that requires recall!
"Gun Responders": The New First Responders
In light of events in White Settlement, Texas many have asked about the laws and or restrictions regarding gun possession or "open carry" in Virginia as it relates to places of worship.
The tragedy at the West Freeway Church of Christ demonstrates the effectiveness of "citizen first responders" or "gun responders" to such incidents and their necessity. There was no police on site at the venue at the time of the shooting but because of the laws passed by the Texas State Legislature recently the church was permitted to have its own security detail of trained parishioners who could carry within the venue in order to perform security for worshipers.
Good thing. Compare West Freeway to what happened at Emanuel African Methodist Church long used as the symbol of Progressives assault on firearms as well as the advancement of the "white nationalist" narrative.
Could the shooter at the 2015 Emanuel African Methodist Church in Charleston, South Carolina shooting been stopped had there been "gun responders" on site where nine worshipers were killed by Dylan Roof? Important to note as well that this shooting was not an "assault rifle" style shooting as many in the Virginia legislature have used as an example of why such firearms should be banned.
Roof was able to reload his Glock handgun five times. Five times! May have this ability been curtailed or even stopped immediately had there been "gun responders" on site at Emanual?
Back in 2011 then Virginia Attorney General and now Acting Deputy of Homeland Security, Ken Cuccinelli stated that open carry of firearms was permitted in places of worship for self defense.
Cuccinelli stated:
"The right of self-defense lies at the heart of the right to keep and bear arms... carrying a weapon for personal protection constitutes a good and sufficient reason under the statute.”
Virginia law has clearly barred persons from carrying weapons into churches while a religious meeting or service is being held UNLESS a person has what is deemed "good and sufficient reason".
The issue remains who makes that determination: the individual or the State? If an individual is concerned for their safety or security is that not "sufficient" and if detained by law enforcement due to a complaint from another citizen who feels "uncomfortable" by the presence of a firearm whose "right" becomes greater than the other?
Virginia Progressives appear to be claiming the the person who feels "uncomfortable" has greater standing than the person executing a Constitutional right that admittedly Progressives do not support in the first place.
The current Attorney General Mark Herring has not commented regarding the issue of open carry in places of worship thus far following the Texas shooting. This could be political calculus given the rise of over 100 Virginia localities passing pro-2A "gun sanctuary" resolutions leading into the next General Assembly session in Richmond.
In 2010, Delegate Mark Cole (R) of Fredericksurg had proposed a bill in the House of Delegates that would permit the open carry of firearms within a place of worship if approved by the venue itself to permit such possession on its grounds. The religious institution would have the say as to whether a firearm could be brought onto its property.
In light of recent instances, many churches are now reviewing stated positions on firearms given the manner in which "gun responders" intervened quickly and efficiently without endangering other worshipers in responding to the shooter in Texas. Most Jewish synagogues in Virginia already have full time armed security forces on site.
The all volunteer security team at West Freeway Church of Christ was led by Jack Wilson who not only works security but is also a certified instructor of firearms. Being armed and on site permitted Wilson to respond immediately within seconds to the active shooter and ultimately put the shooter down before more could be harmed.
The video of inside the church continues to be removed by social media platforms. This could only be an attempt to sway the messaging that the real impact of "gun responders" like Jack Wilson demonstrate. The video illustrates not only how fast these things occur but also how little time citizens have to react or respond. How long would citizens have had to wait inside before local police arrived? How many more would have been killed?
These are questions that Virginia Progressives do not want to have to answer. They will tell you that if they just are permitted to remove all guns than these types of tragedies would be avoided. Yet, the shooter in Texas appears to have not been able to even purchase a legal firearm in the first place and still managed to secure a weapon.
How will Progressives address criminals from securing weapons? They won't. They know they cannot prevent a criminal intent of securing an illegal firearm from securing one and that is not what there gun ban and restriction legislation is intent on preventing.
Progressives will seek to ignore the Texas shooting. It is counter productive to their narrative and their political end. Jack Wilson is a hero, but try and find one of these Virginia Progressives praising him for his actions. They will twist the shooting to their own agenda and point to it as a "see what can happen" moment if guns are not removed from Virginia's communities.
"Gun Responders" should be the new front line of first responders to deter and/or respond to shooters. In January 2019, the Virginia Senate narrowly passed a bill that would permit first responders who are former law enforcement or veterans like EMT, Paramedics and Fireman to conceal carry if they so chose to do so.
Senate Bill 1012 will likely be repealed by the new General Assembly convening this month with new Democrat majorities in both chambers.
